The greenhouse industry needs green solutions

When Primo started its green journey more than five years ago, we didn't get much traction in the market, and we found it difficult to engage our colleagues and set targets. Today, the picture has changed.

Biodegradable clips for growing plants

We see a fast-growing demand for sustainable solutions from our customers and their customers, not least in the commercial greenhouse industry. Primo's modest but valuable contribution to the environmental performance of the end product is based on our FUTURE FIT programme, which includes six concrete sustainability commitments:

BY 2025: 50% OF QUOTES WILL INCLUDE SPECIFIC OPTIONS FOR CO2 REDUCTIONS

BY 2030: 30% OF OUR RAW MATERIALS WILL COME FROM RECYCLED OR RENEWABLE SOURCES

BY 2030: 50,000 TONNES OF PLASTIC COLLECTED FOR RECYCLING IN COLLABORATION WITH EXTERNAL PARTNERS COMPARED TO 2020 BASELINE

BY 2030: 55% REDUCTION IN TOTAL CO2 EMISSIONS COMPARED TO 2019 BASELINE

BY 2025: 100% OF LOCAL SITES WILL HAVE CERTIFIED ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS WITH LOCAL WASTE AND WATER REDUCTION PROGRAMMES

BY 2025: 100% REUSE OF ALL RAW MATERIAL PLASTIC WASTE FROM PRODUCTION

Advanced CO2 calculator to document the carbon footprint of the product

When you order a Primo plastic profile or gutter, we can feed the data from the plastic profile into our calculator and extract the CO2 emission figures. We have partnered with experts in the field to provide the data and documentation that enables us to calculate the cradle-to-gate CO2 emissions and reductions of every single plastic profile that leaves one of our manufacturing facilities.

At Primo we offer plastic profiles and greenhouse gutters that are optimized for best sustainable performance; examples of environmentally friendly features and solutions include

·         CO2 calculator to measure the specific CO2 emission of the gutter and plastic profile

·         Advanced greenhouse gutters made from reused/regrinded plastic

·         High quality types of plastic for a service life of at least 10 years

·         Biodegradable and compostable plastic profiles, e.g. tree, fruit and floriculture clips

·         Finishing profiles, glazing beads etc. with excellent insulation properties

·         Responsible production facilities with CO2 counters and a water recycling system

·         Reuse of scrap and offcuts from our production

We are constantly developing our processes and designs to optimize the sustainability property of the product, and to reach our FUTURE FIT targets.
